Three Years
Ted hired me as an associate because I was a recent college grad that couldn't find a job in her field. And so began my transition job that turned into a well-loved career.
Don't get me wrong...some days I wonder why I do this. But those moments are fleeting. I do it because I love it and it makes me happy.
I form connections with people that I might not otherwise meet. I am able to learn regulars' life stories by taking mere minutes out of my day to learn more about them and what makes them tick. I am able to devote time to develop relationships with those I work with by letting them know that they are valued. I love making others feel important.
Three years is a long time to be at a restaurant job that I thought would only be a filler position until I joined the "Real World." While some might think my talents lie elsewhere, I am content with the knowledge I have gained about the industry and about myself as well.
I have changed for the better.
Tomorrow is my last day at our Dirksen bakery-café. I will be rejoining my team at White Oaks to help with training and staffing on Wednesday. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to learn more from my teammates and know that together we will be able to face any challenges that come our way.
Wish me luck!
