Another Year
I turned 27. Holy smokes!
It's hard to believe that I am in my late '20s now. I'm not complaining, don't worry! Seeing as how no one can see the future, it would have been hard to predict where I could currently be sitting in life five years ago, let alone ten years ago.
Rewind:
Five years ago I was not working, as I just had Evelyn. I was a senior (I graduated as a super-senior) at UIS, living in Chatham with Jake and two friends. Soon after I began working part-time again as a server at Cracker Barrel and volunteering my office services at the AARP Illinois Legislative Office.
Ten years ago I was a junior high school. My wardrobe was all over the place. One day I would wear my grandpa's ugly sweater with ripped jeans and an even uglier tie, then I would wear black pinstripe pants, a nice top, and a flower in my hair to match my heels and purse of the day. I hung out with the ever-lovely Lunch Buddies, performed in every band and choir available at our school. And I didn't really apply myself at school. I could have been an A student if I had worked a little harder at it, but I did enough to get by with Bs and Cs.
What has gotten better since then? Everything! I have so much more confidence as a woman than I ever did as a girl. I am more sure of my capabilities and where they will take me. I value my family so much more: I have amazing sisters, extended family, and in-laws to share my chaotic life with.
Here is to many more of life's celebrations!
