Me Time

I am naturally a talker (shocking, I know!).  When left to my own devices, I find myself seeking out social media as a way to pass the time.  I made a conscious effort this week to spend less time on social media and more time pondering life's meanings...okay, I am not that deep.  I did vow to spend more time reading and listening to music solo rather than spending that extra time on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram.

My alone time has been spent well!  I read over 200 pages out of a book I have been unable to read and listened to two albums while training for the half-marathon.  Success!  As you can tell from my Facebook posts, the positivity is creeping into every facet of my life, and I absolutely love it. More "me" time means more time to evolve and create goals for my future.

This "me" time also allows me the opportunity to dwell on those opportunities lost to being "too busy." I want to make more time for my friends and family, along as myself.  My recent friend dates have been wonderful opportunities to catch up with friends I haven't seen in a long time.

I want more friend dates!  And I want suggestions on your favorite books and music so I can continue
to culture myself.  Okay..............
GO!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Sarah

  1. Alicia dropped a double U here,
Try Tell the Wolves I'm Home or The Year of Living Biblically. A Visit from the Good Squad was also interesting (until it wasn't anymore, haha. It would not be first on my list).

But Tell the Wolves I'm Home is a coming-of-age story about a high school girl whose favorite uncle, sort of a reclusive artist, dies of AIDS during the initial recognition/outbreak of the 80s. It's a bit of an ugly cry book.

The Year of Living Biblically is a heartfelt and humorous book from a secular guy from a Jewish background who decides to live 365 days by all of the laws in the Bible. This is, quite honestly, one of my most favorite books I have ever read. He does some bizarre things, interviews all kinds of people, he and his wife deal with infertility during this year, etc. It's just really funny and really heartwarming.

A Visit from the Goon Squad was fun, but I felt it lost steam at the end. It's a web of people and how their lives intertwine through the music business and with technology. About 3/4 of the way through it turns a little Einstein's Dreams preachy though. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it. But it's a pretty recent release that a lot of people really loved. Its structure is quite interesting and makes it fun to read anyway.
